Born in Daejeon, South Korea, trombonist Jaehan Kim is one of the most influential brass players and educators in Korea.

He has won many of the most influential international competitions such as International Trombone Association (ITA) Alto Trombone Competition, the American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition, American Protégé Woodwinds & Brass Competition, Korea Trombone Symposium Orchestral Excerpts Competition, “Swisstbone” International Trombone Competition, Hungarian Trombone Camp International Competition, Jeju International Brass Competition, and International Association of Professional Music Teachers (IAPMT) Online Competition.

As a soloist, Jaehan Kim has soloed with many ensembles in Korea and the United States such as Andiemusik Philharmonia, Jeonju Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Symphonic Brass, Jubelton Symphony Orchestra, NEC New Music Ensemble (M. A. Turnage’s Blood on the Floor), and Metrowest Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, he has had recitals in South Korea and United States several times, and he premiered several solo pieces in Korea such as Daniel Schnyder’s Tenor Trombone Sonata, Serge Baudo’s Petite Suite for Trombone and Piano, Brad Edwards' "Three Calls for Unaccompanied Trombone", and Elizabeth Raum’s “Olmütz Concerto for Alto Trombone and Piano”.

As a chamber musician and orchestral musician, Jaehan Kim was a member of "The Four Paper Clips" Trombone Quartet from 2021-2022, which was selected for the NEC Honors Ensembles Program. he also performed with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted under Jaap van Zweden), Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, and Boston Symphony Orchestra as a Guest Principal Trombone and Trombone Substitute. Furthermore, he also has been a member of the Pacific Trombone Project since 2023.

Aside from his interest in solo and chamber/orchestral playing, Jaehan Kim has also demonstrated his passion as a brass/music educator. He has developed his musical and pedagogical techniques through participating in several of the most influential international music festivals and seminars such as Pacific Music Festival (Artistic Director: Valery Gergiev), Michael Mulcahy Trombone Seminar, and Pokorny Low Brass Seminar. Furthermore, he also has experience in teaching many young students in Korea while he was serving as an Arts and Sports Personnel in Korea (2022-2025), and most of the students have achieved their achievements such as winning several national music competitions and being accepted to numerous universities and music schools in Korea.

Before moving to the United States to pursue his further musical studies, he earned his high school diploma from Sunhwa Arts High School in Korea under the tutelage of Hyungsu Kim, Heesuk Jung, Jeonsik Yoo, and Ohtae Kwon. After moving to the United States, he recently earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Toby Oft, Principal Trombone of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Beginning in the fall 2025, he is going to be pursuing his Master of Music degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University under the tutelage of Nick Platoff, Principal Trombone of the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
